News & Updates

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Please note - this notification only potentially impacts the Marathon and Half Marathon. It does not apply to the 10k and 5k

Over the last few weeks and months we have been working closely with the City of Dieppe regarding some planned construction to deal with subsidence on the Riverfront Trail where it lies between A&W Burger and Rens Pets.

"At present, bank erosion poses an immediate risk to approximately 350 meters (m) of the Dieppe walking trail located downstream of Halls Creek. The walking trail sits atop a marsh dike adjacent to the river. This dike provides flood protection to numerous commercial properties and roads. Since 2010, the widening of the river has resulted in the loss of much of the marsh buffer zone between the river and the dike"

- This is an extract of a statement provided to the City of Dieppe by the province on 08 August -

The dates for the planned construction have been changing but it is now clear that the start date for the construction coincides with Legs for Literacy. There is a possibility that we will be able to use the Riverfront Trail for the marathon and half using exactly the same routes we used in 2024, but this could be a very last minute decision.

We have a contingency route in place and are working to have this certified as a Boston Qualifier so that both distances for the marathon and half marathon are exact measurements. This contingency will include using Champlain Street and Virginia Avenue in Dieppe and we have already started detailed discussions with the City of Dieppe, the RCMP and our traffic management company to ensure a safe and fun route for everyone. Essentially, this will mean that we will have 2 certified Marathon and Half Marathon routes ready to race depending on the last minute condition of the trail.

Any changes do not affect the character, flow or elevation of the routes and therefore deferrals or refunds will not be permitted.

We will keep you updated as we move closer to race weekend. Our hope is that we will be able to use the 2024 routes but our team will be ready to implement the alternate route

Thank you for your understanding.
